| Obama needs a stand against gay marriage ban
There been lots of speculation lately about whether Obama would be to the middle and rejecting some of his progressive persona. Some of the arguments tend to be persuasive than these.
Regardless, with the discussion drawing scrutiny, it encouraging to view Obama please take a stand like this one.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who previously said the matter of gay marriage must be left as much as each state, has announced his opposition to some California ballot measure that will ban samesex marriages.
Within a letter towards the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club read Sunday at the group annual Pride Breakfast in San Francisco, the Illinois senator said he supports extending equal rights and advantages to samesex couples under both federal and state law.
Some conservatives have suggested this is the flipflop. It not Obama said he supports states making their very own decisions, and in this example, he enjoy travelling to Californians result in the superior decision meant for equality.
This may seem routine needless to say Obama opposes an antigay measure such as this one but James Kirchick raises a good point: The Kerry/Edwards ticket wasn ready to go this far four years ago.
I add, by the way, that John McCain, that is so conservative on gay rights he has even opposed civil unions, props up ballot measure, and wishes to see gay marriage banned in California as well as other states..
